Disneyland Information
Adventureland reproduces the exotic surroundings of Asia, the Middle East and the South Seas. The Jungle Cruise takes passengers through a simulated tropical rain forest that includes elephants, hippopotamuses, a Bengal tiger and a waterfall. Nearby is Tarzan's Treehouse, where the climb-through experience is from a shipwreck, over a suspension bridge to the vine-covered tree. For a light-hearted interlude, the singing birds and flowers at the Enchanted Tiki Room will brighten your day.
Critter Country is home to Splash Mountain, a hollowed-out log ride through the world of Brer Rabbit, Brer Bear and Brer Fox that climaxes with a plunge down a five-story waterfall. Also in Critter Country is The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, a heart-warming journey with the beloved friends of the Hundred Acre Wood.
Disneyland park is at 1313 Harbor Blvd. off I-5 Disneyland Dr. and Disney Way exits. The park encompasses more than 60 major attractions, 50 shops and 30 restaurants divided among eight themed lands. Entering Disneyland through a 19th-century railroad station, guests can board one of four trains of the Disneyland Railroad and circle the park, passing the 1890s Main Street, U.S.A., and seven other theme areas: Tomorrowland, Frontierland, Fantasyland, Adventureland, Critter Country, Mickey's Toontown and New Orleans Square. Town Square faces the station; old-fashioned streetcars rumble past an ice cream parlor, bank and other enterprises--all open for business.
Frontierland re-creates the American West of the 19th century. At Big Thunder Mountain Railroad guests depart from an 1890s mining camp aboard open-air ore cars and encounter a swarm of bats, a raging waterfall and an underground earthquake. Plying the Rivers of America are the Mark Twain riverboat and the square-masted schooner Columbia. The Fantasmic! special effects show starring Mickey Mouse is presented nightly each summer and on weekends along the Rivers of America in Frontierland.
Main Street is the home site for Disneyland's daily parades. Walt Disney's Parade of Dreams, a daily spectacular filled with music and elaborate floats, features one of the largest casts of Disney characters and performers ever assembled. The Parade of Dreams celebrates the park's 50th anniversary and highlights favorite Disney stories and characters with more than 100 performers.
Main Street, U.S.A., is a composite of the nation's small towns as they appeared at the turn of the 20th century, inspired by Walt Disney's hometown of Marceline, Mo. The thoroughfare leads to all Disneyland attractions and is flanked by the Opera House where, in celebration of the park's 50th anniversary, Disneyland--The First 50 Magical Years is on display. This new exhibit showcases 50 years of Disneyland memories through never-before-seen artwork, models and designs. A highlight is an all-new film featuring recently discovered footage, most of which has not been seen in more than 45 years. Comedian Steve Martin, who got his start a few steps away at the Main Street Magic Shop, hosts the humorous and inspirational film. (Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, previously located at the Opera House, is on hiatus until the 50th anniversary celebration is completed in 2006.)
New Orleans Square recaptures the city of a century ago with iron-trellised balconies; narrow, winding streets; sidewalk cafes; and wandering Dixieland jazz minstrels. Guests can board boats and follow a band of Audio-Animatronic buccaneers as they burn and plunder a town in Pirates of the Caribbean. Above Pirates of the Caribbean is the Disney Gallery, a treasure trove of Disney memorabilia.
Sleeping Beauty Castle, the gateway to Fantasyland, is swathed in banners, jewels and crowned turrets in honor of the park's 50th anniversary celebration. Also, Tinker Bell flies over and around the landmark castle as part of the fireworks spectacular, Remember...Dreams Come True, which brightens the skies with pyrotechnics, lighting effects and fireworks, all accompanied by a new musical score.
The Jolly Trolley travels through Mickey's Toontown, which features Disney characters in fanciful community settings. Within Toontown are Gadget's Go-Coaster, a miniature roller coaster made of oversized toys, and Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin, where passengers board cartoon cabs for an unpredictable automobile chase.
The nearby Haunted Mansion is the domain of 999 ghosts, ghouls and goblins who cavort through dark, cobwebbed halls. From October through December, the ghostly manor transforms into Haunted Mansion Holiday where Halloween and Christmas collide, thanks to the colorful characters of Jack Skellington and his dog Zero from Tim Burton's "Nightmare Before Christmas."
Through the castle drawbridge the horses and twinkling lights of the King Arthur Carrousel can be seen. Rides based upon the adventures of such storybook characters as Snow White, Peter Pan, Mr. Toad, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, and Alice from "Alice in Wonderland" can be found here. "it's a small world" offers a cruise around the globe during which nearly 600 Audio-Animatronic children wearing bright native costumes sing and dance. The Matterhorn roller coaster simulates a bobsled run through the Alps. Tomorrowland offers a glimpse of futuristic ideas and out-of-this-world adventures. Guests can experience the 3-D adventure, "Honey, I Shrunk The Audience"; Star Tours; Astro Orbitor, where they can pilot their own "spaceships"; or drive the roadways of Autopia. Space Mountain has been re-launched with new effects and an onboard soundtrack; also new is Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, where guests aboard Spaceship Cruisers take aim at targets with their own laser cannon. The interactive experience is based on the Disney/Pixar film "Toy Story." Tomorrowland is one of two depots for the Disneyland Resort Monorail.
Visitors to Adventureland can continue their journeys to far-off locales at the Indiana Jones™ Adventure, based upon the Indiana Jones film series. Aboard four-wheel-drive vehicles, passengers navigate rutted, bumpy roads to encounter ancient temple ruins, clouds of smoke and fire, bubbling lava pits, a menacing temple deity and the inevitable rolling rock. While you're on Main Street, stop by the AAA Touring & Travel Services Center, operated by the Automobile Club of Southern California.
The one-day park ticket covers admission to Disneyland park plus all rides and attractions, except the arcades.
